In honor of Kelsey and Smokey

Today's post will be dedicated to the two boys who preceded me and made my mommy's heart able to love so much.

Kelsey - 2/1/01 - 10/22/11  Rescued from an animal shelter in Missouri by Khady's mommy, he lived his life with seizures, overcame three serious abdominal operations, and beat cancer.  He was my mom's baby and she still cries for him.  His passing was quite sudden and was a shock to all.  He wasn't walking right, or at all, and had no strength in his limbs.  Mom and dad took him to see Dr. Curry and she said that he had no sensation in his legs and that he was suffering from a neuropathy in his spine, for which there is no cure.  They made the rough decision to help him cross the bridge and mom held him as he took his last soft breath.

Smokey - 9/27/1997 - 12/27/2011  Adopted as a tiny puppy from a shelter in Iowa, he was a healthy boy most of his life.  He was a shepherd mix and was daddy's boy.  During the last year, he had difficulties with stairs and mom and dad took turns carrying him (at 97 lbs) up and down the stairs so he wouldn't hurt himself.  Neither of them wanted to part with him.  It got so bad that he wouldn't even get up and started to get pressure ulcers from lack of movement.  Another trip to Dr. Curry and she noted that he had muscle atrophy in both hind legs and hips.  His muscle was gone and he was weak.  Again, the difficult decision was made to help him cross the bridge to be with his brother.  He too, took his last breath with mommy holding him tight.

I hope to be able to fill the void that my new family feels and I will strive to be the best husky ever.  I know I've got some big shoes to fill.  I am thankful to them both for filling mom and dad's hearts so full of love because I was a rescued dog too and someone with a smaller heart may have let me be euthanized.

So, please take a moment to give your furbabies a kiss right now.  Go do it!  You never know when that kiss will be the last one you get to give them or that last hug or that last treat.  Also, remember that us dogs love to get them too!  We love being a part of your families and being kissed and loved.  We only want to make you happy.

As Kelsey would have said, hugs and drool,

Scout

HELLO!!

Hurrooooo everypup!  My name is Scout.  I am a three year old male Siberian Husky.  I have a hearing disability and was in a shelter.  These two nice ladies came to get me on Friday the 23rd of March and took me to a house with a big back yard and a girl doggie and a human man, woman, and teenager.  I was to be a foster, my foster dad announced last night that I am going to be staying furever so I decided I better start blogging.

My humans used to be owned by Kelsey and Smokey, but both have passed and gone to the Rainbow Bridge, so now I get to own them with Coco.  Coco is my sister now.  She is an 8 year old Australian shepherd mix and she doesn't really seem to like me much.  I will show her though.  I'm fun and beawooootiful and I will be a good little brother.

Check back often to see what I'm up to!
